Two sides of the marketplace
Zurfex is a two-sided platform:
Consumers (truckers) search for certified inspectors, compare options, and book appointments online.
Testers (inspectors) set their availability, accept incoming requests, perform the test, and get paid through the platform.
Every booking is tied to a specific tester, time slot, location, vehicle details, and price — so both sides know exactly what they are agreeing to before the appointment happens.
Step 1: Find a certified tester
Consumers start by searching for inspectors near their location. The search considers:
Geography — zip code, coordinates, or radius
Service type — mobile testers who come to you, or fixed-location shops
Ratings and reviews from past customers
Vehicle details — model year and OBD protocol (J1979, J1939/J1979, etc.)
Fleet yard discounts for operators testing at their own yard
Each result shows a starting price quote calculated for that specific job, not a generic flat rate. Testers must be admin-approved before they appear in search results, so only vetted inspectors are bookable.
Step 2: Review the tester profile
Before booking, consumers can open a tester’s profile to see:
Star rating and written reviews
Whether they offer mobile or fixed-site service
Service area and address
Weekly availability schedule
A price quote based on vehicle year, protocol, and job location
This gives fleet managers enough information to choose the right inspector without phone tag or guesswork.
Step 3: Pick a date and time
Booking uses real-time availability. When a consumer selects a date, the platform:
Looks up the tester’s weekly schedule for that day of the week
Generates hourly time slots within their working hours
Removes slots that are already booked
If a slot disappears while someone is checking out, the system blocks double-booking with a database lock — so two truckers cannot claim the same appointment.
Step 4: Set the test location
Location depends on how the tester operates:
Fixed-site testers — the shop address is pre-filled automatically
Mobile testers — the consumer enters a service address (with map autocomplete), and the platform calculates travel distance for pricing
Distance matters. Pricing includes a free mileage allowance, with a per-mile surcharge beyond that threshold.
Step 5: Transparent pricing and payment
Before confirming, the consumer sees a full price breakdown:

Payment is handled through Stripe. The booking is created first in pending status, then the consumer completes checkout. The tester cannot accept the appointment until payment is confirmed — protecting both parties.
What happens after booking
Once payment succeeds, the booking enters a clear status lifecycle:
Pending → Confirmed → In Transit → In Progress → Completed
↘ Cancelled (at any active stage)
For the consumer:
Receives a booking confirmation with date, time, location, and amount
Can track status from their bookings dashboard
Can leave a review after the test is completed
For the tester:
Sees the request in their Pending tab
Can Accept (once paid) or Decline
After accepting, updates status as the job progresses:
Start Journey — en route to the location
Mark as Arrived — on site and ready to test
Complete Test — inspection finished
Mobile testers also get Get Directions links and can share live location during active jobs.
How testers manage their business
Inspectors have their own portal to run their side of the marketplace:
Availability — Set weekly hours per day (e.g., Monday 8 AM–5 PM). Disabled days mean no slots are offered.
Bookings dashboard — Tabs for Pending, Active, Completed, and Cancelled bookings, with list or tile views and date-range filtering. Bookings can be exported to CSV or Excel.
Earnings — Track completed jobs and payouts. When a booking is marked completed and payment has cleared, the platform processes a Stripe Connect payout to the tester’s account, minus the platform commission.
Stripe Connect onboarding — Testers connect a Stripe account to receive payouts. The platform verifies that charges and payouts are enabled before money moves.
Cancellations and fairness
Life happens. Zurfex handles cancellations with defined rules:
Either party can cancel an active booking
Payment intents are voided or refunded when a booking is cancelled before completion
Tester penalties may apply for late cancellations, helping protect consumers who planned around the appointment
In some cases, the platform can attempt to find a replacement tester automatically
